VISIT FLORIDA Looks Forward to Global Meetings Industry Day

By on April 6th, 2016 — 1:26pm

GMID 1The Meetings & Events Team at VISIT FLORIDA is participating in the first-ever Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) on Thursday, April 14, 2016.  Along with many of our Industry Partners, we will be joining forces with the advocacy coalition Meetings Mean Business (MMB) to showcase the real impact that business meetings, conferences, conventions, incentive travel, trade shows and exhibitions have on people, business and communities.

“GMID will unite the meetings industry in a way that has never been done before,” said David Peckinpaugh, former MMB co-chair and president of Maritz Travel. “The growth and success of our industry are critical to the world’s economy and we look forward to communicating our value on the global stage.”

GMID 2“With the help of organizations such as VISIT FLORIDA and their Partners, we will demonstrate the critical role our industry plays in building personal relationships, driving positive outcomes and supporting strong communities,” said Michael Dominguez, MMB co-chair and senior vice president of corporate sales at MGM Resorts International.

As part of our participation in GMID, VISIT FLORIDA will be hosting a Twitter Chat from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on April 14 to bring meeting planners and Florida destination and property representatives together for an information sharing Q&A session.  The chat will focus on the meetings industry and Florida’s meeting opportunities.

The moderator, @FLMeetings, will ask a series of questions during the 60-minute period covering topics including tips for staying within budget while meeting in Florida, the latest technology being used at events, and the best “meeting gone green” efforts to preserve the environment.  Each participant is encouraged to respond and share their expertise when appropriate using the hashtags #GMID16 and #MeetFL.
