Florida Tourism Well-Represented at DMAI 2016 Annual Convention

CDME 3Last week, Florida’s tourism industry participated in the 2016 Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) Annual Convention in Minneapolis.  As the premier event for destination marketing and management professionals, DMAI’s 2016 Annual Convention featured educational tracks focused on leadership, marketing, sports, convention sales and more, moderated by dynamic thought leaders from inside and outside the industry.

The Sunshine State was well represented at the convention, with a host of individuals and DMO Partners bringing home accolades and designations for their continued success and engagement with DMAI.

  • CDME – Alvin West, CFO & SVP, Finance & Administration for Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau; Jorge Pesquera, CEO of Discover the Palm Beaches and Sky Wheeler, Sales & Operations Manager for Ocala/Marion County Visitors & Convention Bureau earned the Certified Destination Management Executive (CDME) designation.
  • DMAP 2DMAP – Experience Kissimmee and New Smyrna Beach Visitors Bureau achieved accreditation through the industry-wide Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP) for being a DMO that meets or exceeds industry standards.
  • 30 Under 30 – Neil Curiel, Sales Coordinator for The Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel and Andrea Barnhill, Digital Marketing Strategist for VISIT FLORIDA were selected for the 2016 30 Under 30 Program.
  • Speakers – Leroy Bridges, Media & Interactive Director for Visit St. Petersburg/Clearwater was chosen to speak on the use and adoption of new technology and media such as live streaming, virtual reality and the sharing economy.

VF's Sunshine Social at DMAI 2As part of the convention, VISIT FLORIDA hosted the 5th annual “Sunshine Social” Florida delegation reception with 40 Florida industry representatives in attendance.  This event was established as a way to provide an opportunity for our statewide tourism industry Partners to network and share contacts and experiences in the midst of the convention.

The next opportunity for the statewide industry to come together will be the Florida Governor’s Conference on Tourism September 7-9 at the Hilton Orlando.  If you haven’t already done so, I encourage you to register today.
