Sunshine Matters

I am proud to announce that Carlos Gazitua was officially confirmed as a member of VISIT FLORIDA’s Board of Directors during the recent Enterprise Florida board meeting.  Having already been approved by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, Carlos will fill a vacated regional seat.  His term begins immediately and runs through June 30, 2018.  Carlos, who serves as the President and CEO of Sergio’s Restaurants, is the creator of Sergio’s Cuban Café and the La Flaca™ brand. Promoting healthy cooking alternatives for Cuban food, The La Flaca™ menu has transformed the way people eat Latin and Cuban cuisine in South Florida.

On the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association Board for Dade County, Carlos serves as the President Elect of Restaurants, and is also a recipient of the Doral Chamber Council Hispanic Business Award.  As a Hispanic minority leader in the hospitality industry, Carlos has shared his insights as a featured guest on FOX Business’ “After the Bell”, NPR, WLRN and the Mike Gallagher Show.  His opinion articles have been featured in the Miami Herald, Miami Today and 305 Magazine.

VISIT FLORIDA’s board is comprised of 16 regional seats appointed to equitably represent all geographic areas of the state.  The additional 15 seats on the 31-member board are comprised of representatives of various key sectors of the Florida tourism industry.  The VISIT FLORIDA Board of Directors is the organization’s private sector governing body who, along with the members of its 11 committees, provide guidance, input and insight into the evolution of VISIT FLORIDA’s marketing programs.

With his strong background and extensive industry knowledge, Carlos is an excellent addition to our Board and I look forward to working with him to help make Florida the No. 1 travel destination in the world.
