VISIT FLORIDA Is First DMO in the World to Publish Content on Google Currents

By on December 9th, 2011 — 11:13am

I am proud to announce that VISIT FLORIDA is working with Google to publish travel stories on a new smartphone and tablet application called Google Currents that has just been released.

Launching on Android devices, iPads and iPhones, Currents lets users explore online magazines and other content with the swipe of a finger.  VISIT FLORIDA’s work with Google is the first of its kind between the search engine giant and a destination marketing organization.

Google is making its presence felt in the tourism and hospitality space in a big way.  The fact that the VISIT FLORIDA Magazine was the first destination marketing content on Currents is an endorsement of the power and quality of the Florida brand and of VISIT FLORIDA as a trusted source of travel planning information.

Since June, VISIT FLORIDA has rapidly become a storytelling leader in the travel market, publishing more than 125 stories written, photographed and filmed by over 50 veteran journalists. All under the leadership of another veteran journalist, Kevin McGeever, VISIT FLORIDA’s new senior editor, these writers have long associations to such trusted news sources as the Miami Herald, South Florida Sun-Sentinel and St. Petersburg Times.

The VISIT FLORIDA Magazine on Currents includes robust feature content, as well as offerings from each of the nine Florida Insiders who cover a Florida-specific topic.  The Insiders use all the quick-response tools of the 21st-century journalist. They write feature stories for the web, blog posts, answer questions from users on VISITFLORIDA.com, take photos, and shoot informal videos as well as appear on camera in highly produced travel pieces. They also maintain an active social media presence on Twitter and Facebook.

With the launch of Currents, smartphone users now have another beautiful and simple way to read compelling stories of Florida, plus daily reviews by our Insiders on such topics as family travel and the state’s 825 miles of beaches.

Google is helping us tell our story and show why Florida is the No. 1 travel destination in the world.  Check out the Google Currents application in the Apple App Store and Android Market.
