VISIT FLORIDA and Partners Share Sunshine State Stories with DC Media

By on March 24th, 2014 — 2:26pm

From A to (almost) Z, VISIT FLORIDA PR staff and four of our industry Partners met with top journalists in the Washington, D.C. area earlier this month.  The mission was four days of non-stop one-on-one meetings with national and international press.  A team at AOL Travel, which recently linked up with MapQuest, welcomed Visit Jacksonville & the Beaches, Visit Orlando, The Florida Keys & Key West and Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau to its offices near Dulles International Airport to discuss possible story needs from the Sunshine State.

Andrea Sachs from The Washington Post listened as partners shared the newest events, latest news and brightest developments in their areas.  The group also met with Jayne Clark from USA Today, Jayne Wise, senior editor at National Geographic Traveler, and Sherri Dalphonse, senior travel editor with Washingtonian Magazine.  Convene Magazine Executive Editor Christopher Durso peppered the group with questions about new themes in conventions and major groups coming to Florida in 2014 during another meeting.

The Travel Channel’s web producer and digital strategist gave partners pointers and shared their own strategies on how to best get stories placed with the travel behemoth.  AARP, Fox News and several freelancers in the market also took time to hear about the latest happenings in Florida.

As the landscape of journalism keeps shifting, these desk-side appointments and face-time with significant media continue to prove to be valuable tools in sharing Florida’s stories with media.  For more information about our PR programs, or to discuss story ideas that have a regional or statewide focus for pitching media, email me at pforrester@VISITFLORIDA.org.
