During the Cruise Lines International Association’s Leadership Forum, held yesterday at the InterContinental Hotel in Miami, Assistant Secretary Rich Biter with the Florida Department of Transportation released a new report offering a statewide perspective on the Florida cruise industry. The presentation focused on the importance of the cruise industry to the present and future economic prosperity of Florida, as well as on the policy changes and updates that will ensure Florida maintains and expands on its status as the dominant player in this industry nationwide. Today, VISIT FLORIDA celebrated completion of a four-month-long beach walk that gathered panoramic, step-by-step footage of Florida’s beaches, to be published by Google Maps in spring 2014. Two-person trekker teams sharing a backpack equipped with a Google Street View camera walked Florida’s 825 miles of beaches, a journey of nearly 2 million steps along the shorelines of pristine parks and chic resorts. VISIT FLORIDA officials and Florida tourism industry leaders cheered as walkers completed the last mile of the journey Wednesday morning in Miami Beach’s South Pointe Park. Continue reading »

Once again, World Travel Market (WTM) was a huge success for VISIT FLORIDA and our Florida delegation. VISIT FLORIDA had over 30 co-exhibitors represented by 125 Florida industry, which allowed us to increase our co-branded stand this year by more than 25 square meters. This four-day business-to-business exhibition, held at the ExCeL International Convention Center in London, provides a unique opportunity for the worldwide travel and tourism industry to meet, network, negotiate and conduct business. It was a very productive week for VISIT FLORIDA, our 17 Partners in the VISIT FLORIDA stand, and other Partners in separate adjacent booths at the recent IMEX America 2013 show in Las Vegas. IMEX America is the largest global hosted buyer exhibition for the incentive travel, meetings and events industry. Combining the best in business opportunities, top quality education and networking events, this high-energy show offered Florida attendees endless connections with decision makers, senior buyers and exhibitors from around the U.S. and around the world. Held annually in October, the show hosts more than 10,000 attendees, including media from 12 countries, and more than 5,200 buyers and exhibitors representing destinations, hotels and resorts, airlines, cruise lines and other travel suppliers from around the globe.
