Governor Rick Scott stopped by the VISIT FLORIDA headquarters in Tallahassee today to thank our staff for all we do to make tourism the No. 1 industry in the state.  During his visit, Gov. Scott greeted staff as he walked around the building, shaking hands and offering his appreciation for a job well done.  He also shared what a tremendous impact tourism has on creating jobs for Florida’s families and improving the state’s economy. The United Kingdom is ranked third in international visitation to Florida with more than 1.6 million visitors coming to the Sunshine State in 2013, a 5% increase over the previous year.  With this in mind, VISIT FLORIDA continues to show a huge presence in the UK by participating in the 2014 World Travel Market (WTM) and coordinating two additional events around the show. Blustery weather and freezing temperatures encouraged over 30 travel writers to learn more about how to “Escape the Winter and Enter the Warmth,” the theme of an evening cocktail reception hosted by VISIT FLORIDA and six Industry Partners in Montreal, Canada.  With 3.7 million Canadians coming to the Sunshine State in 2013, 28% of whom were arriving from Montreal, this market is one of significant importance to VISIT FLORIDA. VISIT FLORIDA and nine Florida tourism industry businesses recently participated in Brazil’s 42nd Annual ABAV Expo hosted at the Anhembi Exhibition Pavillion in São Paulo.  This international tourism Expo, the largest and most important travel trade fair in the Americas, is promoted by the Brazilian Association of Travel Agencies (ABAV).  With the event taking place over the course of five days, industry professionals enjoyed business-to-business interactions for the first three days, and were joined by the general public during the final two days.  Continue reading »
