Yesterday, the Partnership for Florida’s Tourism and five other statewide organizations hosted the industry’s annual Florida Tourism Day.   This all-day event at the Florida Capitol provided an excellent opportunity to showcase the state’s No. 1 industry to the legislature and to educate them on the rationale for tourism marketing public funding. VISIT FLORIDA manages the state’s five Florida Welcome Centers located at I-10, I-95, I-75, US 231 and the Florida Capitol. As a fun way to engage with visitors, and showcase all there is to see and do in the Sunshine State, the four highway Florida Welcome Centers set up special displays that allow travelers to learn more about what’s happening around the state at certain times of the year. Florida has long been the number one recreational fishing destination in the country for anglers, which rightly earned us the title of “Fishing Capital of the World.”   Fishing in the Sunshine State brings in $7.5 billion and supports 75,000 jobs.  With nearly 3.7 million residents and visitors who fish Florida’s waters annually, fishing is an integral part of the state’s tourism industry.   Continue reading »
