Annual CSR Event Supports Give Kids the World Village

By on September 27th, 2013 — 2:03pm

In conjunction with the 46th Annual Florida Governor’s Conference on Tourism, fifteen tourism industry professionals teamed up to participate in a corporate social responsibility (CSR)  activity.  The event, sponsored by Successful Meetings and Meetings & Conventions Magazine, took place at Give Kids the World Village in Kissimmee, Florida.

CSR activities are on the rise with companies integrating social and environmental concerns into their day-to-day operations.  These events encourage positive and purposeful encounters with consumers, communities, employees, stakeholders, the environment and all other members of the public sphere.

Volunteering at Give Kids the World Village was a perfect fit for the tourism industry professionals attending the Florida Governor’s Conference on Tourism.  The group volunteered at the 70-acre, nonprofit “storybook” resort, where children with life-threatening illnesses and their families are treated to week-long, cost-free fantasy vacations.  Since the gates opened in 1989, over 122,000 children from all 50 states and over 74 countries have had their dreams come true at Give Kids the World Village.

Our volunteers enjoyed a brief tour before joining together to clean the Gingerbread House, the dining facility for the visiting families.  It was a truly moving, inspirational and fun afternoon for all involved.

A big thank you to those who volunteered with Successful Meetings, Meetings & Conventions Magazine and VISIT FLORIDA on September 11.  For more information on Give Kids the World Village, please visit gktw.org.  We’re already looking forward to next year’s CSR event and hope to see you there!
