VISIT FLORIDA Staff Take Up Wellness Challenge

By on October 16th, 2013 — 9:49am

Health and wellness are top of mind at the VISIT FLORIDA headquarters in Tallahassee.  Will Seccombe, VISIT FLORIDA’s President & CEO, feels happy employees are healthy and life-balanced employees, and is leading the charge to create a wellness environment for his entire team.

Last week, a newly formed VISIT FLORIDA Wellness Team presented the 1st Annual VISIT FLORIDA Health and Wellness Fair which included brief presentations from the organization’s two healthcare providers Capital Health and Florida Blue.  Also present were 12 fitness and wellness companies from Tallahassee showcasing special opportunities and offers for VISIT FLORIDA employees.  Those included fitness classes, memberships, personal training, healthy eating options, life coaching and other wellness options.  Several healthcare screenings and prevention options also took place, such as blood pressure checks, flu shots and massage therapy.

Seccombe delivered his first monthly “Will’s Wellness Challenge” to staff by distributing pedometers and encouraging 50,000 steps over the next two weeks – an average of 3,600 per day.   As an added incentive, he will be hosting a healthy lunch with the staff member who walks the most steps.  This is the first of many easy and fun wellness challenges being put forward to all willing participants.

“Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is vitally important when you’re constantly going at the fast pace our staff does all year round,” said Seccombe. “I’m pleased we’ve formed this Wellness Team and challenge everyone to get more active and better informed about living a healthy lifestyle.”

The VISIT FLORIDA Wellness Team hopes to lead by example and extends an invitation to the entire tourism industry to join us in our challenge.  To learn more about VISIT FLORIDA’s program to increase awareness for the importance of health and well being in the workplace, please contact me at chatcher@VISITFLORIDA.org.
