Florida is First State to Achieve Destination Marketing Accreditation

By on June 25th, 2010 — 10:37am

I am very proud to share with you that VISIT FLORIDA has been awarded accreditation from the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP).  DMAP is an international accreditation program developed by Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI).  As a global leader in destination marketing standards, DMAI affirmed VISIT FLORIDA as a leadership organization among statewide destination marketing organizations (DMOs).  In addition to obtaining accreditation status, DMAP distinguished VISIT FLORIDA as the first statewide DMO to receive DMAI’s recognition of excellence in best practices.

The significance of peer review against industry standards and best practices cannot be underestimated.  This accomplishment is truly a testament to the very successful public/private partnership VISIT FLORIDA has built in conjunction with our statewide tourism industry.

Ed Fouché, Chairman of the VISIT FLORIDA Board of Directors and Senior Vice President-Travel Industry Sales for Disney Destinations explained, “VISIT FLORIDA’s accomplishment through DMAI’s accreditation program is a significant example of the organization’s commitment to the future success of Florida’s tourism industry.  The fact that VISIT FLORIDA is the first statewide DMO to be accredited speaks to the vision and leadership of the organization.”

The rigorous application process included documentation of VISIT FLORIDA’s compliance of both mandatory and voluntary standards.  Areas measured include governance, finance, management, human resources, technology, visitor services, group services, sales, communications, membership, brand management, destination development, research/market intelligence, innovation and stakeholder relationships.

There are 115 DMOs now accredited through DMAP’s independent international accreditation body, defining quality and performance issues in destination marketing organizations.

“By applying for and receiving DMAP accreditation, VISIT FLORIDA has demonstrated a commitment to quality programs and services,” said Diana Lawson, FCDME, DMAP Board Chair. “We are proud to recognize VISIT FLORIDA for their achievement. Their operations and business practices, ranging from governance to sales to innovation, underscores their dedication to providing exceptional leadership and commitment to the professionalism of DMOs across the globe.”
