VISIT FLORIDA Working to Share Information and Publicize Resources

By on June 29th, 2010 — 1:56pm

With non-stop media coverage about the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, many travelers understandably have questions about their Florida getaways.  VISIT FLORIDA, and our industry partners, have been working hard to be a source of information for travelers and to promote vacation opportunities across the Sunshine State.

To publicize these efforts and resources, beginning in May, VISIT FLORIDA began an aggressive public relations and media campaign.  The goal is to put context to the headlines and promote tourism to the Sunshine State.

Media response has been strong, with VISIT FLORIDA leadership having appeared on dozens of national and regional news programs and quoted in mainstream and trade press both domestically and internationally.  To date, VISIT FLORIDA has coordinated more than 300 story opportunities.  We have targeted national news, newswires, regional press in important drive markets, and media within Florida.

A few highlights include:
USA Today
CNN/CNNMoney.com
FOX News
CNBC
Associated Press
Reuters
Convention South Magazine
WXIA-TV

Since May 18, VISIT FLORIDA coverage has generated 691 online media articles, 175 print articles, 195 broadcast hits, 606 blog posts, 2,899 tweets, 546 Facebook posts, 269 YouTube videos and 67 message board posts.

Most important, VISIT FLORIDA has and will continue to take the lead in promoting the state by maintaining its position as a credible, dependable resource for travelers.
