During the event, the winners of the National Council of State Tourism Directors (NCSTD) 2012 Mercury Awards were announced. I am pleased to announce that today VISIT FLORIDA and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida Park Service launched the State Parks component of the Share a Little Sunshine campaign. As the college football regular season comes to a close, I am proud to announce the winning university in the Florida Fan Game contest. The Florida Fan Game is an initiative of VISIT FLORIDA’s Share A Little Sunshine program, engaging Floridians to support tourism by inviting friends and family to visit the state. The head football coaches at six of Florida’s major universities called on their fans to send digital invitations, earning points for their school in the Florida Fan Game. With more than 23,000 invitations sent, the University of Florida has earned the title of having “Florida’s No. 1 Fans.” Continue reading »
Tomorrow morning, millions of Americans will watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the first of several treasured Thanksgiving rituals. On the same day, more than two million Americans of Latino heritage also will be watching TV, hearing stories of Jamestown and Plymouth … and of another Thanksgiving 56 years previous, in St. Augustine.
